President Farmajo congratulates Ethiopian Prime Minister, Abiy on winning the election

Mogadishu(SONNA)-President of the Federal Republic of Somalia,Mohamed Abdulahi Farmajo on Sunday Congratulated Ethiopian Prime Minster, Ahmed on winning the majority seats of the parliamentary election of his party, SONNA reported.

”I warmly congratulate PM @AbiyAhmedAli on regaining a strong mandate from the people of #Ethiopia. #Somalia will continue to work with the his government to further strengthen our bilateral relations to benefit our two people and wider region. I wish you great success, Mr. PM”, President Farmaajo said on Twitter post.

Ethiopia’s ruling Prosperity Party on Saturday was declared the winner of last month’s national election in a landslide, assuring a second five-year term for Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.

The National Election Board of Ethiopia said the ruling party won 410 seats out of 436 contested in the federal parliament. Dozens of other seats will remain vacant ; one-fifth of the constituencies didn’t vote because of unrest or logistical reasons. Ethiopia’s new government is expected to be formed in October.

The vote was a major test for Abiy, who came to power in 2018 after the former prime minister resigned amid widespread protests. Abiy oversaw dramatic political reforms that led in part to a Nobel Peace Prize the following year.

Qatar condemns explosion in Somalia

DOHA: The State of Qatar has expressed its strong condemnation and denunciation of the explosion that targeted the convoy of the Banadir Governorate Police Commander in the Somali capital Mogadishu, leading to deaths and injuries.

In a statement yesterday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated the State of Qatar’s firm stance on rejecting violence and terrorism, regardless of the motives and reasons.

The statement expressed the State of Qatar’s condolences to the families of the victims, and the government and people of Somalia, wishing the injured a speedy recovery.

Prime Minister Roble returns back to Mogadishu

Mogadishu (SONNA): Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia H.E Mohamed Hussein Roble has returned to Mogadishu after a four-day visit to Kismayo and Garbaharey in Jubaland state, SONNA reported.

Prime Minister Roble’s visit to Jubaland focused on electoral implementation process, strengthening the security status and implementing development projects that benefit the community.

Breaking:Police commander survives from car bomb attack

Mogadishu(SONNA)-Police commander of Benadir region, Farhan Mohamud on Saturday survived from a car bomb attack which targeted to his convoy near Benadir junction in Mogadishu, SONNA reported.

Press Statement: Al-Shabaab Attack Near Banadir Hospital

Mogadishu, The terrorist group al-Shabaab has once again failed to tear down the Somali people with their insidious attacks.

In the morning of July 10th, approximately 1030 am, al-Shabaab targeted Colonel Farhan Mohamud Qarole with an improvised explosive device where 4 civilians were killed and 9 others injured. The attempt on Colonel Qarole’s life, like everything al-Shabaab does, was met with failure. Colonel Qarole is alive and doing very well.

“The only thing al-Shabaab terrorist and criminals know is violence, however the Somali people will not let them destroy what we have worked so hard to create. With every vicious attack, al-Shabaab perpetrates on the Somali people, it makes us stronger in the fight against them. Al-Shabaab will never break our will, never break our spirit and never take Somalia from us. Just like Colonel Qarole, Somalia will live to fight another day. Somalia will never stop fighting al-Shabaab until we are free from their persecution and violence.” Said Osman Abukar Dubbe, the minister of Information, Culture and Tourism ministry for the Federal Government of Somalia.

4 killed, 9 others injured in car bomb attack

Mogadishu(SONNA)-At least four people on Saturday killed and 9 others injured in car bomb attack near Benadir junction in the capital Mogadishu, SONNA reported.

Police Spokesman, Sadiq Aden Ali told reporters at crime scene that Police commander of Benadir region, Farhan Mohamud survived from the car bomb attack which Al-Shabaab militants targeted his convoy there.

”We confirm that 4 people including pedestrians killed and 9 others injured in the attack. Al-Shabaab militants’ intention was to kill the commander, but survived”, Mr. Ali said.

He added that Al-Shabaab’s attack wouldn’t disappoint them in serving the nation.
