UN Vows to Further Enhance Longstanding Partnership with Ethiopia

The State Minister for Political and Economic Diplomacy Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mesganu Arga, conferred at his office with incoming United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Ethiopia, Dr. Ramiz Alakbarov.

During the meeting, the State Minister briefed the Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator on current affairs, the dividends of the home-grown economic reform agenda and reiterated Ethiopia’s commitment to further strengthen the multifaceted cooperation with the UN in key areas.

Ambassador Mesganu also gave a highlight of the various undertakings of the country in realizing long-term climate resilience, according to Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Speaking of the post-war peace consolidation efforts across the country, Ambassador Mesganu stated the progress on the implementation of the transitional justice policy options and reiterated the Government’s continued commitment to further cement peace.

He said, the Government is also putting wide-ranging efforts into rehabilitation and reconstruction in the areas affected by the Northern conflict.

Last but not least, he mentioned the fact that the 10-Year Strategic Plan of the country is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and called on the UN to support the efforts of the Ethiopian Government to realize the aspirations of the Plan and the flagship development initiatives of the UN.

Dr. Alakbarov, on his part, vowed to further enhance the longstanding partnership between the Ethiopian Government and the United Nations during his tenure as the new Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in the country.
