State of Emergency Inquiry Board Commences Work

The State of Emergency Inquiry Board has officially begun its work today.

Recall that the House of People’s Representatives, which endorsed the state of emergency declared in Amhara region by the Council of Ministers, on Monday approved the appointment of members of the State of Emergency Inquiry Board on same day.

Members of the State of Emergency Central Command Post and the Inquiry Board have exchanged views on the ongoing implementation of the proclamation today.

The two sides also discussed about the activities carried out and future plans.

State of Emergency Central Command Post member, Melese Alemu said on the occasion that discussion was held about joint activities to be carried out with the Inquiry Board.

According to him, detailed briefing has also been given on activities being carried out by the State of Emergency Central Command Post with a view to restoring peace.

Members of the Inquiry Board were also briefed about the rights of people arrested as per the proclamation.

Inquiry Board Chairman Azmera Andemo announced on the occasion that the Board has started work.

He added that the Board also got detailed information about the activities carried out so far by the State of Emergency Central Command Post and its future plans.

The chairman disclosed that the Board will conduct field visits in Addis Ababa and Amhara Region in the coming days.

The Board will also visit in person the arrested to assess the human rights situation, he stated.

He pledged that the Board will evaluate the implementation of the proclamation and make its findings public.
