Years of civil war, foreign involvement and interference – most of it American – has left Somalia one of the poorest countries in the world. Almost three in four people live below the poverty line of 1.9 US dollars a day. Last year less than 100 people visited the country – AFRICA NOW is one of very few foreign media crews to be granted permission to do so.
