SOMALI PRESIDENT CUTS SHORT KENYA VISIT TO ATTEND FUNERAL OF CABINET MINISTER
ADDIS ABABA, May 5 (NNN-ENA) -- President Mohammed Abdullahi Mohammed of Somalia has cut his official visit to Ethiopia to attend the funeral service of the youngest Minister in his government, who was mistakenly shot by government military personnel who mistook him for a militant.
I am cutting short my visit to Ethiopia to mourn with my country and take part in the state burial of Minister Abass," the President said here Thursday, adding that he had ordered Somalia's security head to immediately get to the bottom of the unfortunate tragedy and make sure the perpetrators were brought to justice.
The official twitter handle of the Presidency quoted the president as expressing his sadness at the loss of 31-year-old Abbas Abdullahi Sheik Siraji, who he described as young, diligent and intelligent, according to a report from the African News website.
The report added that the Mogadishu mayoral spokesman had confirmed the death of Siraji, disclosing that he was mistakenly shot by government forces who mistook him for a militant and opened fire on his car.
President Mohammed was in Addis Ababa for a two-day visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn.
