NIGERIA’S BUHARI FLAGS OFF CAMPAIGN AHEAD OF 2019 PRESIDENTIAL POLLS

ABUJA, Nigeria, Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari, on Friday flagged off his campaign, in a bid for re-election in presidential polls next Feb.

Buhari, who was recently accused of not being ready for a serious re-election campaign, by the main opposition party, began his campaign in Uyo, capital of Akwa-Ibom State, in Nigeria's South-South region.

The president told a crowd of supporters at the venue of the rally that, he has delivered on his campaign promises of 2015, in spite of doubts by the opposition.

He said, if re-elected, the insecurity posed by the terror group, Boko Haram, would eventually be eradicated.

Noting that unemployment also remained a challenge in Nigeria, Buhari said, his administration was working to tackle the problem.

He said, his administration would continue to fight corruption, if voted into office for a second term, in 2019.

Earlier this week, Buhari had said, he would embark on an "aggressive campaign" for his re-election.

He said, the campaign of the governing All Progressives Congress party was based fundamentally on three fundamental issues of enhancing the economy, ensuring security and fighting corruption
