NDF, Inhabitants of Amhara Region Restoring Peace and Order Within Short Period: West Amhara Command Post Chair

The National Defense Force (NDF) and the people of Amhara Region have succeeded in restoring peace within a short period in the region that has been facing security problems, North West Commander and West Amhara Command Post Chair Lieutenant General Birhanu Bekele said.

Recall that organized extremist groups in the Amhara region created security problem that cannot be controlled by regular law enforcement.

The group has been looting and destroying public service facilities and blocking roads as well as preventing farmers from farming.

Following the implementation of the state of emergency declared in the region, the defense force has brought back peace to cities and surroundings by taking measures against the extremists.

The extremist group had even dug fortresses inside religious institutions and committed an outrageous act that undermined the value of the society, Lieutenant General Birhanu elaborated.

The chair noted that the group, for instance, attacked the army from the fortress it dug around the Ledeta Church in Bahrdar city.

Besides, it has tried to stop the movement of the army by blocking roads, he added.

To this end, the extremist group has been plotting to create social and economic crises in the region by preventing the free movement of citizens, the command post chair said.

In line with the direction set, the West Amhara Command Post and the public has succeeded in restoring peace in a short period in areas that were experiencing security problems.

According to Lieutenant General Birhanu, the inhabitants in the region are getting regular services.
