Global Humanitarian Overview 2022, December Update (Snapshot as of 31 December 2022)

The 2022 Global Humanitarian Overview (GHO) requirements reached $51.7 billion by the end of the year, a 26 per cent increase from when the GHO was launched in December 2021. The number of people in need of humanitarian assistance in 63 countries also increased by almost 40 per cent, reaching 326 million by the end of the year.

As of 31 December, recorded funding for the 2022 GHO reached $25.9 billion or 50 per cent of needs. While GHO funding was significantly higher in December 2022 than in December 2021 in both absolute ($18.2 billion) and percentage (48 per cent) terms, the 2021 GHO requirements were only $38 billion. While the increase in absolute funding is a positive outcome of global efforts to respond to the unprecedented rise in humanitarian needs in 2022, the gap between needs and requirements was the widest ever, with more than $25 billion in unmet appeal requirements.
