FM: Somalia ready to benefit from China’s Infrastructure projects
Beijing(SONNA)-Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Ahmed Isse Awad on Monday said that his country is willing to benefit from the initiatives introduced by Xi Jinping, President of People's Republic of China about China-Africa cooperation and the Belt and Road infrastructure projects, SONNA reported.
Mr. Awad and his Chinese Counterpart, Wang Yi met Sunday here in Beijing and discussed strengthening bilateral relations and long-historic friendship between the two nations and other areas of mutual cooperation and advantaging existing opportunities.
Somalia signed an MOU to join the Belt and Road Initiatives last year in 2018, and we're now going to make that agreement into reality because all African countries and the world are intending to make use of these initiatives announced by Chinese President in 2013, Mr. Emphasized.
The Minister expressed hope for China-Somalia cooperation to reach new level of investment, trade, promoting industry areas and people to people exchange within three years' time, telling other areas that Somalia is optimistic at this moment.
We can also benefit from China on building the infrastructure such as roads, seaports, airports and advancing technology and teaching the youth and create jobs for them. Developing the agriculture and the fish, He added.
Somalia has big agricultural land with longest coast in Africa and needs markets like China.
On the other hand, the Somali foreign Minister, Ahmed Isse Awad together with a delegation is attending dialogue between the heads of Chinese Financial Institutions and the Coordinators of the Implementations of African Summit outcomes here today and tomorrow on Tuesday.
It is a follow-up actions of the Beijing Summit of the FOCAC(China-Africa Forum) according to officials. Foreign ministers and representatives from 53 African Countries are attending this forum.
