DPM, FM Demeke Confers With Secretary-General Of Muslim World League

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Demeke Mekonnen received at his office the Secretary-General of the Muslim World League, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa.

They discussed issues of mutual interest including promoting religious tolerance and peace.

During the meeting, Demeke highlighted Ethiopia’s place in Islam’s history.

He added that Ethiopia is home to three UNESCO-inscribed Islamic heritage sites including the Holy City of Harar, Al Nejashi Mosque, Sof Omar Caves as well as other historical mosques and documents.

Secretary-General of the Muslim World League, Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa on his part commended Ethiopia’s long history of religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence.

He recalled the noteworthy role of Ethiopia’s King Nejashi for granting sanctuary to Muslim exiles that escaped the persecution of the Quraysh.
