Bombardier Breaks Ground on Abu Dhabi Service Centre, Expands Aftermarket Footprint in United Arab Emirates (UAE)

  • Located at Abu Dhabi International Airport, this service facility will be an important hub for Bombardier business aircraft customers in the Middle East

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates, Dec. 06, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Bombardier today announced the official groundbreaking of its new service centre at Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE). The new facility is Bombardier’s first full-service facility in the UAE and builds on its long-term commitment to our customers in this critical market. At full capacity, the new OEM-operated service facility will also add more than 100 aerospace jobs in the community, cementing Bombardier’s presence in this key financial hub. The new facility is targeted to open in 2025 and once fully operational, should help Bombardier continue to expand and grow its aftermarket revenues beyond 2025.

Bombardier’s new Abu Dhabi Service Centre will feature a large hangar, comprehensive parts depot and a complete suite of maintenance services including scheduled and unscheduled heavy maintenance, aircraft modifications, paint modification, aircraft on ground (AOG) capabilities, and aircraft parking services.

The new facility will also have the capacity to fit up to four Global 7500 aircraft – and will be able to service the Bombardier flagship of a new era, the Global 8000, when it enters into service in 2025. It will provide the ultimate maintenance solution for our in region and worldwide customers of Bombardier’s Learjet, Challenger and Global aircraft families.

Des jeunes partager leurs réflexions sur la Chine et le monde lors du Forum Génération Z 2022 à l’Université Tsinghua

Pendant le Forum, un étudiant, Liu Dibo, partage ses expériences de bénévolat aux Jeux olympiques d’hiver à Beijing

BEIJING, 6 décembre 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Liu Dibo, étudiant de l’Université Tsinghua (« Tsinghua »), a partagé ses expériences de bénévolat aux Jeux olympiques d’hiver de Beijing 2022 lors du Forum mondial Génération Z 2022 (« le Forum »). Le Forum, co-organisé par l’Université Tsinghua et China Daily, a invité les participants chinois et étrangers de plus de 30 pays à partager leurs histoires et leurs réflexions sur l’orientation de la Chine et du monde. Il était possible de participer au Forum à distance et en présentiel.

Liu Dibo, qui étudie à l’École dédiée aux questions environnementales de Tsinghua, a parlé à l’auditoire de son expérience de bénévole aux Jeux olympiques et paralympiques d’hiver 2022, au cours desquels il a été assistant de Francesco Ricci Bitt, président de l’Association des fédérations internationales olympiques des sports d’été. Liu Dibo a parlé de la façon dont il a entretenu une « amitié intergénérationnelle » avec Francesco Ricci Bitt. Il a évoqué leurs échanges sur la Chine, au cours desquels il a pu dire combien le pays avait changé depuis que Pékin avait accueilli les Jeux olympiques d’été 2008. Il a également pu présenter la culture chinoise et lui faire part de lieux d’intérêt à Pékin. Après son retour dans son pays d’origine, Liu Dibo a été ravi de recevoir une lettre de remerciements de Francesco Ricci Bitt, remerciant son « ami exceptionnel » pour avoir rendu son « séjour à Beijing 2022 agréable et facile » et l’invitant aux prochains Jeux olympiques d’hiver, qui se tiendra en Italie en 2026.

Des jeunes venant de pays comme la Russie, l’Inde, l’Afrique du Sud, la France, l’Égypte, la Géorgie et les États-Unis, ont prononcé des discours. En réunissant des jeunes du monde entier, le Forum a mis en valeur les expériences positives des jeunes qui s’efforcent de réaliser leur potentiel.

Qu Yingpu, éditeur et rédacteur en chef de China Daily, a prononcé un discours lors du Forum pour encourager les jeunes du monde entier à promouvoir la construction d’une « communauté ayant un destin partagé pour le bien de l’humanité » et a encouragé les jeunes à essayer de mieux comprendre la Chine.

Qiu Yong, secrétaire du Comité de l’Université Tsinghua du PCC et président du Conseil de l’Université Tsinghua, a déclaré dans son discours d’ouverture : « Les jeunes représentent l’espoir et sont les architectes de l’avenir. Lors du Forum, d’autres jeunes ont pris la parole, notamment Nik Gu, étudiant russe en relations internationales et ambassadeur mondial à l’Université Tsinghua. Nik Gu a parlé du développement rapide qu’il avait pu observer en Chine au cours de ces dernières années. Ayant vécu en Chine pendant 17 ans, Nik Gu a déclaré avoir été profondément influencé par le concept culturel « d’harmonie sans uniformité » et a appelé les jeunes à unir leurs forces dans le monde entier afin de promouvoir une « communauté avec un destin partagé pour le bien de l’humanité”.

Tamar Kvlividze, une vlogger géorgienne vivant en Chine, a raconté lors du Forum qu’elle hébergeait des vidéos sur les plateformes de réseaux sociaux en Chine et en Géorgie sur ses expériences de vie en Chine. Ses chaînes sont devenues très populaires en Chine et en Géorgie, a-t-elle indiqué, et a exprimé son espoir de participer au renforcement des liens culturels entre les deux pays.

Minh Thao Chan, doctorant français se spécialisant en conduite autonome à l’Université Tsinghua, a fait part de ses réflexions et de sa compréhension de la « voie chinoise vers la modernisation ». Il a indiqué admirer comment la Chine avait mis l’accent sur le développement des domaines de la science, des technologies et de l’éducation.

DRC Peace Talks End Amid Hopes of Opening Dialogue with M23

A third round of peace talks for the Democratic Republic of Congo has ended in Nairobi with no reported progress toward settling conflicts in the country’s volatile eastern provinces. The talks are coming to an end as the Congolese government accuses the M23 rebel group of killing at least 270 civilians.

The talks ended after a week of discussions between the Congolese people and their government on how to bring peace and stability to the country. The only agreement was for continued dialogue between the government and local communities.

However, the chief mediator at the conference, former Kenyan president Uhuru Kenyatta, serving as peace envoy from the East African Community regional bloc, said this was the beginning of peace in Congo.

He said both sides agreed a 20-year-old war cannot be solved in one day but said they must start a path that brings long-lasting peace. He said there was discussion about how there have been more peace conferences similar to this one with the government, and yet there has been no implementation of the peace agreement. He said this time around, they should not just talk, but also implement what is possible.

Among other things, participants discussed how local communities could benefit from mineral resources, which have been central to most of the armed conflict in eastern Congo.

The meeting in Nairobi will be followed by a more consultations between the Congolese government, led by President Felix Tshisekedi, and rebel groups across the country.

The main rebel group, M23, which has engaged with the Congolese forces in fierce fighting in the east of the country, was not present in the talks.

The fighting has been going on in recent days, despite both sides agreeing to a cease-fire more than a week ago.

The government of Congo said M23 fighters killed more than 270 people in the town of Kishishe.

The United Nations said it received reports of civilian casualties during fighting between M23 and other militias in Kishishe.

Lawrence Kanyuka, the spokesperson for the M23 group, denies the group is targeting civilians and calls for the international community to investigate the deaths.

“The DRC government, who speculated on the lives of people, one minute 150, 120 goes back to 100 dead, but on all those deaths, there is no one identified, there is no list, no names of the people, that’s why we say we need an investigation to happen,” Kanyuka said. “We want a thorough investigation, insist on an independent inquiry to take place.”

Kanyuka accused the government forces and other rebel groups of attacking their positions.

“All frontlines have been attacked most of the time because the DRC government has another agenda and doesn’t want any peace to happen in the DRC,” he said. “That’s why the coalition forces always attack the M23. If it’s not, it’s going to be somewhere. Basically, all the positions that’s held by M23 are always under attack by these coalitions.”

The East African regional bloc said it will check in on Congo’s dialogue early next year, with the next meeting taking place in the eastern Congolese cities of Bunia and Goma.

UNICEF Kenya Flash Situation Report No. 6 (Drought): October 2022

The drought situation continues to deteriorate in 21 out of the 23 ASAL counties in Kenya, due to the four failed consecutive rain seasons and the depressed October – December 2022 (short rains) season. Fourteen counties are in ALARM phase; 7 are in ALERT phase and only 2 are at NORMAL phase, and drought is affecting about 4.5 million people, (compared to 2.1 million in September 2021), of these approximately 2.14 million are children.

A total of 10,316 children (5,406 girls and 4,910 boys) were admitted for treatment of severe acute malnutrition and 184,582 caregivers, families and community members were reached with nutrition messages in reporting period in the target counties in October.

A total of 164,715 people (41,152 men, 42,826 women, 39,531 boys and 41,206 girls) were reached with safe water through the rehabilitation of 39 non-functional boreholes and solarization of 6 boreholes in Wajir, Marsabit, Garissa, Mandera and Turkana counties in October.

A total of 25,730 people (4,271 Girls, 4,538 Boys, 10,127 Women and 6,794 Men) were reached with critical life-saving integrated outreach services linked to targeted and supported health facilities in October.

A total of 5,022 out of school children (2,320 girls & 2,702 boys) in the counties of Baringo, Samburu, Kwale, Turkana and West Pokot were supported to re-enroll in school in October. School dropouts due to lack of water and school meals are being reported.

5,555 children (2,903 girls, 2,652 boys) reached with access to mental health and psychosocial support.

2,058 households consisting of 2,606 children (1,324 girls and 1,282 boys) reached with humanitarian cash transfers, integrated with other UNICEF-supported outreach services, such as nutrition and health treatment, plus referrals for child protection cases and disability card registration.

UNICEF’s funding requirements to provide life-saving services in health, nutrition, WASH, protection, and education over the period the period April – December 2022 has been revised to align with the revision of the Kenya Flash appeal and stands at US$ 126.9 million with funding gap of US$ 91.9 million or 72 per cent.
