SNA chief confirms 75 Al-Shabab terrorists killed in operation

Mogadishu Somali National Army chief Odowa Yusuf Ragge says death toll rises to 75 terrorists in anti-AlShabaab operation in Hiran province.

The military activity which backed by information from residents to troops took place in Yaasooman village yesterday (September, 17 2022).

“We also have scores of prisoners,” he said in exclusive phone interview to SONNA. “The op still underway as planned”.

Regge has also frankly hailed sacrifice of the soldiers, described as the highest point of patriotism, and urged locals to double collaborating with forces.

“They (the army) signed away their lives, comfort and family bond to defend the territorial integrity of over beloved country,” he added.

Al-Shabab terror group lost control of more than 30 areas in recent nationwide military campaign as Somali government committed ending of their brutality.

Banadir region Governor receives UN envoy for Somalia

Mogadishu Banadir region Governor and Mayor of Mogadishu, Yusuf Hussein Jimale, received at his office United Nations envoy for Somalia, James Swan, and the deputy representative for humanitarian affairs, Adam Abdelmoula.

During discussions, officials talked about range of issues including development, reconstruction, economic growth, security, and job creation for the youth.

Swan said that the UN Office in Somalia will support the administration of Banadir Region, in order to implement these important pillars.

“The meeting also focused on the drought situation in the country and the displaced people in the capital of Mogadishu, how to help them, and finding a lasting solution after the relief,” read in part a statement from Mayor Yusuf office seen by SONNA.

PM Hamza chairs the security and liberation meeting

Mogadishu, The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E Hamza Abdi Barre, chaired the meeting of the Liberation and Security, which discussed the ongoing operations against Al-Shabab terrorists and the insurgency to liberate the country.

The meeting presented the plan for the liberation of the areas where the Terrorism is located and the stabilization of the liberated areas, in order to deliver the government and social services that have been crippled by the insurgency.

The Prime Minister praised the brave soldiers who helped the people who succeeded in liberating the areas where the insurgents were hiding, pointing out the importance of public awareness for the plan to liberate the country.

Prime Minister Hamza thanked the security agencies and Somali forces for their efforts day and night to ensure the security of the people, and said that the government is committed to freeing the entire country from Al-Shabaab.

Somalia, Egypt to cooperate in beating unemployment

Cairo Somalia’s labor and social affairs minister, Bihi Iman Cige, held discussions with his Egyptian counterpart, Hassan Sheikh, in the capital city of Cairo.

Both sides exchanged views on cooperation in several fields including staff training, experience sharing, handing unemployment and reconciliation.

In a candid remarks, Mr Hassan thanked Bihi his attendance of 48th Labor Conference which kicks off on Sunday (September, 18, 2022).

For his part, Mr Bihi said Federal Government is committed addressing effectively problems facing workers particularly the youth in order to beat unemployment.

“Efforts ongoing to find a enduring solution to the unemployment. We also work on securing the rights of civil servants,” he added.

During his stay in Cairo, Minister Bihi is about to catch up with some of the his counterparts from 21 countries who are attending the summit organized by the Arab League.

Special Envoy for drought relief attends sideline conference on food security

The Special Envoy of the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia for drought and humanitarian issues, Mr. Abdirahman Abdishakur Warsame, attended a conference on the sidelines of the International Community conference on food security in Africa.

The meeting was attended by Ministers, heads of the AU, experts, and businessmen, the Envoy gave a speech and said that Somalia now needs urgent assistance for drought relief.

The Envoy also underlined that Somalia needs investment and development projects in the fields of Agriculture, Livestock, Water and Fisheries to prevent recurring droughts.

Minister of Health receives a delegation from WFP

Mogadishu, The Minister of Health and Social Welfare of the Federal Government of Somalia, Dr Ali Haji Aden, received a delegation from WFP led by the head of World Food Program (WFP) to Somalia Elkhidir Daloum, in his office.

Elkhidir Daloum, the head of the WFP in Somalia, gave a report to the Minister of Health and Social Welfare about the organisation’s goals in taking part of the development of Health and Social Welfare of Somalia.

The WFP organisation carries out huge projects in Somalia and the organisation supports projects in the field of health and welfare of the country, while supporting the Ministry of Health in the projects related to malnutrition.

Minister of Labour meets his Qatari counterpart

The Minister of Labour and Social Affairs if the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E Bihi Iman Igeh met with his Qatari counterpart, H.E Ali bin Samikh Al Marri, they discussed bilateral cooperation in multiple areas such as institution building/public sector reform, job creation and skill development. “The State of Qatar is a critical partner to Somalia,” Minister Bihi said.

The Minister also met with the General Director of the Arab Labour Organisation, H.E Fayez Almutairi, they discussed the potential areas of partnership and mechanism for a meaningful support to Somalia.

Somali armed forces and the local people hit the Al-Shabab terrorists hard

The Somali armed forces with the help of the local people have inflicted a heavy defeat on the Al-Shabab terrorists who were in Amal and Halaley areas near Halgan area of ​​Hiran region.

The armed forces and the people seized a lot of weapons from the Al-Shabab terrorists as they fled the scene leaving seven of their dead men.

The army and the local people are in control of the areas where the fighting happened this afternoon and they are still in pursuit of the rest of the terrorists.
