Damascus, SANA- President Bashar al-Assad received on Saturday member of the European Parliament Thierry Mariani and the accompanying delegation.

Talks during the meeting dealt with the development of the situation in Syria and the region, where President al-Assad answered the delegation members’ questions related to the situation on the ground and the difficult conditions in which the Syrian people live as a result of the sanctions and the unjust blockade imposed on them, noting that despite the negative effects of this siege in all aspects of life, However, the Syrians have learned how to create new ideas and solutions through which they can overcome difficulties.

President al-Assad considered it necessary to have a dialogue at the parliamentary, the intellectual and the cultural levels in order to analyze and understand the developments and changes taking place in the region and the world.

His Excellency stressed the importance of parliamentary and cultural delegations’ visit to Syria and the region to see the reality on the ground, and to be able to link political statements and reality, because what Europe suffers regarding the issue of refugees, terrorism and extremism is caused by its wrong policies in the Middle East.

Talks touched upon the role of the nationalism concept in the Arab region, identity and relationship between religion and politics, and the big challenges facing the countries of the world as a result of extremism that has penetrated many societies, including the European ones, as a result of the failure of their governments to put right policies to achieve the integration of immigrants to Europe with retaining their original identity.

Moscow, SANA- Head of the Main Military-Political Directorate of the Russian Armed Forces, Officer ,Andrey Kartapolov ,said that the joining of Syria to the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) is possible if this issue is useful  for it and the member states at the organization.

“CSTO charter is not a rigid dogma and it should immediately correspond with the emerging situation” ,meeting with Echo of Moscow Radio Station, the Russian officer said, indicating that he doesn’t rule out Syria’s access to the treaty if the mutual interest can be realized.

The Organization was founded on October 7th in 2002 based on the Treaty signed on May 17th , 1992 including the member states of Russia ,Belarus ,Kazakhstan, Armenia ,Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

Damascus, SANA-The Ministry of Health announced on Saturday evening that 80 new coronavirus cases were registered in the country ,with  the recovery of 19 cases and death of 5 infected others.

The Ministry added in a statement that the number of registered coronavirus cases has climbed to 26.799 ,of which 22.262 ones recovered and 1964 others passed away.

The first coronavirus case in Syria was reported on Mar 22nd last year while the first fatality of the virus was on 29th of the same month.

The Civil Aviation Meteorology Department expected the weather on Sunday to be cloudy in general, with temperatures remaining relatively high on the mountains, and the interior above their seasonal rates, while the humidity levels are expected to decrease which calls for caution against fires in forested areas.

According to its detailed weather forecast, it indicated the following:

– General condition: Humid and relatively hot summer weather, especially in the highlands and inland areas

– Average temperature for the month of August 2021 is between 25 & 33 degrees

-Expected temperatures:

On the coast from 23 to 35 degrees

Above the mountains from 16 to 30 degrees

Inlands from 18 to 36 degrees

-Surface winds: West to northwest during the day, northeast at night, with speed between 10 and 35 km/hr.

– Visibility: Good on the coast, average sometimes at medium heights due to fog

-Relative humidity on the coast: between 60 and 80%

-Sea condition: Low to medium wave height, water surface temperature at 30 degrees

-Atmospheric pressure: 756 mm Hg.

-Sunrise at 06:44 a.m.

Sunset at 07:18 p.m.

NEW YORK, 21 August 2021 – “Unless urgent action is taken, more than four million people across Lebanon – predominantly vulnerable children and families – face the prospect of critical water shortages or being completely cut off from safe water supply in the coming days.

“Last month, UNICEF warned that more than 71 per cent of the population of Lebanon could run out of water this summer. Since then, this perilous situation has continued, with critical services including water and sanitation, power networks and healthcare under huge strain. Vital facilities such as hospitals and health centres have been without access to safe water due to electricity shortages, putting lives at risk.

“If four million people are forced to resort to unsafe and costly sources of water, public health and hygiene will be compromised, and Lebanon could see an increase in waterborne diseases, in addition to the surge in COVID-19 cases.

“UNICEF is calling for the urgent restoration of the power supply – the only solution to keep water services running.

“The needs are massive, and the urgent formation of a new government with clear commitments to reform, is critical to tackle the current crisis through determined and systematic action to protect children’s lives and ensure access to water and all basic services.

“Our teams in Lebanon are working tirelessly, in incredibly difficult circumstances, to provide life-saving services and continue to support the response to COVID-19 including with vaccine deployment and further expanding of programmes.”
