Dante Labs announces appointments of Paul Jones, Simon Partridge and Christian Bourne to turbo-charge global population genomics programmes

Paul Jones, Simon Partridge and Christian Bourne, previously from Illumina and Genomics England, have joined Dante Labs in its new Cambridge, UK office to spearhead its ground-breaking global population genomics offer

CAMBRIDGE, United Kingdom, May 11, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Dante Labs today announced Paul Jones, Simon Partridge and Christian Bourne have joined the Company’s Executive Team as part of its mission to enable faster, more effective population genomics programmes globally.

Zymo Research Releases Open-Source Bioinformatics Pipeline for SARS-CoV-2 Variant Detection in Wastewater

Early Release of the VirSieve^™ Bioinformatics Pipeline Will Promote Collaboration in Environmental SARS-CoV-2 Research

IRVINE, Calif., May 11, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Zymo Research has released the VirSieve^™ Bioinformatics Pipeline source code to the environmental microbiology community to promote global collaboration and support for the detection of SARS-CoV-2 variants in wastewater. VirSieve^™ is an automated computational pipeline that analyzes sequencing reads from the SARS-CoV-2 virus in wastewater samples to better understand viral variants present in monitored communities. By rating the confidence interval in observed viral mutations, the software has the potential to significantly increase the accuracy of analyzing any changes in the viral genetic material.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, while the deployment of vaccines has had a tremendous positive impact on curbing the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic within the USA, new viral strains are still emerging. Some of these strains, e.g., B.1.1.7, are classified as “variants of concern” due to evidence of increased spread, pathogenicity, or vaccine evasion. Wastewater Next-Gen Sequencing is emerging as the most viable solution for near real-time community surveillance.

Viral sequencing from wastewater is difficult due to fragmentation and degradation of the viral RNA, often resulting in sequencing errors that ultimately manifest as false mutations. VirSieve^™ can identify these false variants and mark them as being low or no confidence, allowing researchers to filter mutations with a higher degree of support. Teng, alors que le processus de fabrication de puces de 14 nm arrivera à maturité l’année prochaine, le constructeur chinois SMIC (Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation) rejoindra les rangs d’Intel, TSMC et Samsung en tant que première entreprise chinoise à acquérir la technologie 14 nm et à la mettre en production de masse.

M. Teng a déclaré que le processus de 14 nm de SMIC sera appliqué dans les domaines de la technologie 5G et de l’informatique haute performance, et a affirmé qu’il pourra largement répondre à la demande.

وقال تنغ ران، رئيس مركز بحوث صناعة الدوائر المتكاملة بمؤسسة (CCID) للخدمات الاستشارية التابعة لمركز بحوث يتبع لوزارة الصناعة وتكنولوجيا المعلومات الصينية “إن الصين بحاجة ماسة للتحرك نحو إنتاج الرقائق المتوسطة إلى العالية، والقدرة على إنتاج رقائق 28 نانومتر يعني أنها تستطيع تلبية معظم الطلب على الرقائق دون الاعتماد على بلدان أخرى”.

وبحسب تنغ، فإنه مع نضوج عملية تصنيع رقائق (14 نانومتر) العام المقبل، ستنضم (SMIC) إلى صفوف “أنتل” و”TSMC” و”سامسونغ” كأول شركة صينية تحصل على تقنية (14 نانومتر) وتضعها قيد الإنتاج الضخم.

وقال تنغ “عمليات الشركة الصينية لإنتاج رقائق 14 نانومتر ستطبق في مجالات تقنية اتصالات الجيل الخامس والحوسبة الفائقة، ويمكنها تلبية الطلب إلى حد كبير”.

ويأتي اختراق الصين في مجال صناعة الرقائق المتقدمة في وقت تواجه فيه شركة (SMIC) وشركات التكنولوجيا الصينية الأخرى قيودا تجارية كبيرة تفرضها الولايات المتحدة. ففي العام الماضي، فاق التقدم في تقنيات تصنيع الرقائق الصينية التوقعات محليا مع اختراقات في موجات المليمتر لشبكة اتصالات الجيل الخامس والإخراج الناجح لشريحة معالج FinFET N+1 لشركة الصين الدولية لأشباه الموصلات.

وأوضح تنغ أن صناعة الدوائر المتكاملة الصينية تتحول من تنمية “عالية السرعة” إلى أخرى “عالية الجودة”.

وقال تيان يو لونغ، كبير المهندسين والمتحدث باسم وزارة الصناعة وتكنولوجيا المعلومات الصينية، خلال مؤتمر صحفي عقد في الأول من مارس الماضي، إنه وفقا لتقديرات صناعة أشباه الموصلات الصينية، فقد سجلت مبيعات الدوائر المتكاملة الصينية 884.8 مليار يوان في عام 2020، وهو ما يمثل متوسط معدل نمو سنوي قدره 20%، وثلاثة أضعاف معدل نمو صناعة الدوائر المتكاملة العالمية خلال نفس الفترة.

وأضاف أن صناعة الدوائر المتكاملة في الصين حققت نموا مثيرا وثابتا خلال فترة الخطة الخمسية الثالثة عشرة (2016-2020)، مع تحسينات كبيرة في تقنيات التصنيع والتغليف ومواد المعدات الرئيسية.

مشيرا إلى نمو الشركات بشكل مطرد، وظهور عدد منها كمؤسسات رائدة عالميا في التصميم والتصنيع والتعبئة والاختبار وغيرها من روابط السلسلة الصناعية.

وبينما تواصل إحراز التقدم على جبهات متعددة، أقر تنغ أن الصين لا تزال في دور “اللحاق بالركب” عندما يتعلق الأمر بتطوير الرقائق الأكثر تقدما. ودعا إلى مزيد من التعاون الدولي كون صناعة الدوائر المتكاملة صناعة عالمية ولا ينبغي عزل أي بلد من سلسلة الصناعة.
